NOW...Another Fabulous Ornament Tutorial...

We are half way through the Twelve Days and I hope you are having fun creating with us!

Elaine here...to bring you Ornament #6. As I was looking for inspiration to create my ornaments this year I was poking around in my craft closet.  I found a box of gold twine, rick rack and cording that my Grandmother had sent me when she was cleaning out her home. Some of my earliest memories of creating Christmas ornaments are with her. Styrofoam balls, sequins, beads and so many pretty trims.  She was so patient with us and always made us feel as if our ornaments were the prettiest she had ever seen.  With that in mind  I decided I wanted to create an ornament with a sparkly vintage feel.
Here is my Dimensional Star ornament.
This is what you will need.
Cardstock 1 Sheet
Metal tape - approximately 80"
Star die or star template - I used Sizzix large star - it must be symmetrical
Bronze Distress Paint
Barn Door Distress Ink
Viva Décor Inka Gold - Yellow Gold
Sponge and small amount of water
Clear Embossing Powder
Glossy Accents
Tim Holtz Clear Distress Glitter
Stampendous Gold Halo Glitz Glitter
Tacky Glue
Heat Gun
Embossing Folder - I used Snowflakes
12" Thin Gold Cord or thread
12" Thicker Gold Cord
5" Gold rick rack or trim for hanger
Clear bead or crystal dangle

First cut cardstock to fit die or template.
Wrap cardstock with metal tape cover front and back.
Die cut or trace and cut four stars. Emboss stars - if you want the pattern to be the same on each star - place star in embossing fold and make a small dot using a Sharpie to make registration marks for positioning the rest of the stars.
Use the metal wheel tool and go around the edges of all the stars.
Now swipe the Bronze Distress paint over the front of each of the stars. and also around the edges on the back side.

Take the sponge and dip in water and rub in the Inka Gold  - now pounce onto the stars - I liked this texture rather than swiping it on. Dry
Take the Barn Door Distress Ink and swipe across the embossed part of the stars. Make sure the star is on a flat surface. Immediately sprinkle with clear embossing powder and heat.

Fold the stars in half with the embossed side folded to the center.
You are going to glue the back half of two of the stars together.
Tie the crystal dangle or bead onto the thin gold cord. Glue the gold cord to the back of the stars where they come together. Leave the tails long on the top - you will be using them to attach a multiloop bow to the top of the ornament.
Fold the gold rick or trim in half - glue together to form a loop hanger.
Glue to the back of the two stars.
Glue the other two stars in place.
Brush the star with Glossy Accents and sprinkle with Distress Glitter.

Once this is dry - put a little Glossy Accents on your finger or using a paint brush put on the edges of the stars and sprinkle with the Halo Glitter.

Make a multi loop bow with the gold chord and tie onto the ornament with the thin gold chord.
Make sure and let everything dry really well.  Hang on your tree and enjoy.  Make sure to leave a comment and you might be the lucky winner of this ornament.  If you would like I would love to hear about your early ornament making memories. Check back tomorrow for another ornament tutorial.
Have a Merry Christmas!
Elaine

Welcome Back!
Thank you for visiting our blog. I hope you are enjoying our Ornament tutorials the LBH gals have shared with you this week! Today, I'm also posting another fun sneak of our NEW Front Porch Kit..."Pass the EggNog".  Here's a looksie at some more items in this fantastic kit...

Today's ornament is brought to you by Lynette Chiles...She has a yummy ornament tutorial "cooked up" for you today!

Good Morning--Lynette here...Bringing you Ornament #5 of the 12 Days of Ornaments.  I love cupcakes and I love to collect ornaments. I have joined the two to create a tasty confection to hang on your tree.

Supplies:
1 paper mache' cupcake (available at LBH)
1inch torn strip of fabric or yarn (chinchilla)
Tacky glue
1 1/2 X 12 strip of paper
3/4 X 12 border punched strip of paper
12" piece of trim
Hot glue
6" baker's twine

Here is aother more vintage version...

Supplies for Vintage Ornament :
Dazzle (Art Anthology) and Silver Stickles
Beads, rhinestones, Jellies, Etc. for decoration
2 1/2" square matching cardstock

To Begin:
Score and fold 1 1/2" strip of paper. Natural Vintage: 1/4" intervals, Peppermint : 1/8" intervals (challenging), Santa: Cupcake Liner
Attach end  to end keeping hills and valleys intact.
Hot glue to bottom of cupcake form.
Add punched border at top of scallop on form overlapping liner. Your cupcake form is actually a box and if you don't want it to come apart, glue the top to the bottom. Trace the bottom of box to cardstock square and cut out. Attach to bottom. If you choose, this piece can match your liner. Santa Cupcake: I actually used a cupcake liner kit that had the liner and topper. To do this you have to remove the bottom of the liner so it will slide onto the form. You may have to add another row of trim or another punched border.
Peppermint and Santa Ornament: Frosting: Attach chinchilla beginning at top of trim and swirl onto top attaching with hot glue or tacky glue.

Tie 6" length of baker's twine in an overhand knot at the end. Glue knot to top of cupcake.

Continue to swirl and attach yarn to top of form.

Vintage Ornament: Use 1" torn strip of onasburg or muslin fabric. Start above trim and swirl and twist attaching with hot glue or tacky glue. Attach hanger as above. Brush on Dazzle by Art Anthology before adding decorations. Brush on silver stickles to liner.
Since cupcakes are all the craze, I am sure you have seen many ways to decorate them. It would be fun to make these confections for a Friend's Birthday or for other seasons.
Hope you enjoy your cupcake - Yum!!!!!!

Be sure to post a comment here for a chance to win your choice of cupcakes. I will be back on Thanksgiving Day with the final ornament and a very special surprise..so stay tuned!

Merry Christmas,
Lynette

Now...On to Day #4 of our 12 Days of Ornaments feature!

Susan Tidwell here to welcome you to Day 4 of this year's "12 Days of Ornaments"! Today I am very excited to share with you a tutorial for an ornament I created for this series!

Mini-Starbook Photo Ornament
Designed by: Susan Tidwell

 Supplies you will need:
5 pieces of Christmas patterned paper - 2"t x 3"w
5 pieces card stock #1 (green in sample) - 2" x 3 1/4"
5 pieces card stock #2 (red in sample) - 2" x 3 1/2"
1 yd baker's twine in coordinating color
1 jump ring
1 drop crystal
Scor-tape (1/8" or 1/4")
10 photos sized to approximately 1 1/2" x 1"
Optional: ink to match

Instructions:

1.  Fold each paper in half and ink all edges.

 2. Assemble one of each into a stack with patterned paper on top and then the two card stocks according to size - you will have 5 stacks.

3.  Tape vertical outside edges of each of larger card stock pieces (red here).

4. Adhere smaller card stock piece (green here) by aligning outside edges (there will be a gap because the top one is 1/4" smaller). Repeat for each stack.

5. Add tape to top card stock piece on both edges.  Repeat for each stack.

6. Adhere patterned pieces to top of each stack. You will have five little "booklets" like below.

7. Add tape along all four outer edges of one side of the back card stock piece.

8. Repeat for 4 stacks, just on one red side. On the fifth one, attach tape to both back sides.

 9. Adhere one taped side to one untaped side, lining up edges and making sure the patterned paper is facing in correct direction. Continue until all except first and last sides are connected.

Before adhering these together, cut twine in half.  Open jump ring and place through hole in crystal bead. Close jump ring and thread twine through. Fold in half and double knot the twine at the jump ring. Lay between last two sides with knot flush with bottom of pages.

10. Adhere last two pages together.  Make another double knot at top of ornament and then one more tying the ends of twine together for a loop.  Cut remaining piece of twine in half and make two bows around the knot at top of the mini-starbook.  Add photos.

Here is a photo of the bottom of the finished ornament showing the star formed by the pages, hence the name star book!

I hope you enjoyed my ornament. It was such fun to create! I used photos from throughout the year of my two little grandsons to document their growth in 2013.  This would be a great addition to parents' and grandparents' trees!

Remember to post a comment for a chance to win this ornament.

Merry Christmas!
Susan
