Art Journal Page Using Authentique "Playful" Paper Collection

It's Susan Tidwell here to share another project I created with the Authentique "Playful" paper collection I received in my LBH Media Team packet this month. These papers were so fun and colorful and a joy to work with - and, they are available at the LBH!

I decided to use these papers on my weekly Documented Life Project art journal spread for Week 25 (June 20).  The Documented Life Project is a year-long art journal/planner challenge conceived by five talented artists and is in it's second year. You can read more about it here if you are interested. There is a different overall theme each month and every week an art challenge and journal prompt are issued. The challenge is to use these as inspiration for your weekly journal page.

The theme for June was Travel Journaling. The June 20 art challenge was to be inspired by your hometown; the journal prompt was "there's no place like home."  This is the page I created for that week.

I had just enough Authentique papers left over from my previous projects to make the five houses which represent the five places I've lived. I was born in Vermont and then, once married, moved to Missouri then California and New Mexico before finally arriving in Texas in 1999.  I also used the hexagonal chipboard pieces for two windows in the houses. I computer-generated the state names as well as the title: "Wherever we are together, that is home."

The sky and grass backgrounds were painted with Dylusions and Dina Wakley paints, mostly scraped on with an old gift card - my favorite technique for applying paints! I also used stamps with black Archival ink and white paint on a piece of shelf liner to create the textures in the background.

For the week's "calendar" area I painted a large scalloped border, doodled smaller scallops and cut up an old calendar for the numbers. I used a tiny day stamp from Maya Road for the days and documented each day with a permanent marker.

I am really enjoying this project and am happy to say that I have been able to keep up with each week. It is a great way to document this year in an artsy way.  If anyone is interested in seeing past weeks' spreads, you can find them on my blog here: www.susan-artfulmusings.blogspot.com

Clearly Creative Blog Hop

Are you Ready to Hop!?!
Today starts our "Clearly Creative" Blog Hop!
Our LBH Media Team is sharing a Project Tutorial using the "Clear" Sheets that are so popular this year in the Crafting World!

Lets get started! Lindsey is kicking us off with the 1st project tutorial... she is featuring the Bella Blvd Invisibles and Clear Cuts on a Graphic 45 Journal!
-------------------------------------------------------------

Hi LBH Friends,
Lindsey here with an idea how to use the Bella Blvd
Clear Cuts and Invisibles in a fun handmade journal.

Suppy List...

White Paint Pen
Orange Flower
Ribbon from Little Blue House

Using the Bella Blvd Invisibles- Referee I trimmed a bit off and used it as the cover to my journal.  I like the rigidity to this product, it really is ideal for this application in my mind.  I used hot glue on it with no problems to attach the chalkboard frame, Cattlist Leather and flower.

This was another application using the Bella Blvd Clear Cuts.  I trimmed down the piece to a semi-circle that fit in my journal and used some puff paint to write "journey" which goes along with the theme of my journal.

Supply List...

T-shirt Puff Paint
Circle Template ( I used a paper plate)
Scratch piece of paper
pencil

I traced the semi-circle and then wrote my phrase a few times until the spacing was correct and I had it like I wanted.
Then I used the puff paint and wrote tracing my pencil lines.
A bit of tape will help keep it all in place too.

I had used a bit of distress paint and decided against it last minute.  I used some windex and a paper towel and the paint wiped right off.  The paint was on the reverse side.

Here's a glimpse inside the journal using Graphic 45- Artisan Style

LBH Art Group this week!

Calling all art groupies! Our July meetings will be this week - July 6 (6pm-9pm) or July 8 (10am-1pm).  There are still spaces in each session if you haven't signed up yet.

Last month we made the "bones" of our "Happy Scrappy, Funky Junky, Hodge-Podge Art Journals." (If you haven't seen these yet, check out a few samples at the LBH.)  This month we will start working on the blank pages, turning them into one-of-a-kind journal pages.

If you were not able to join us last month, you may still come this week. We can get you caught up on making your journal!  Just bring an old book to gut - the covers will be used for the covers of the journal.

Here is the supply list for this week's meetings:

your journal
usual basic supplies, including a glue stick,
paper trimmer and scissors
old credit card (or the cardboard fake ones that come in junk mail)
a few inks
an old magazine to cut up
a few favorite stamps
brayer if you have it
one pretty napkin
scraps of favorite patterned papers or odd bits of ephemera
your favorite journaling pen

More information is on the LBH Art Group Page (click on the links above).

I can't wait to see your journals!
