Echo Park: Dinosaur Adventure Mini Collection

Nat here to start off the week with some layouts I made with the Echo Park "Dinosaur Adventure" mini collection.  I love collection packs for the obvious reason: there is no fuss or stress with matching patterned papers. These are great for "one-stop" creative planning if you are in the mood to power through and get a lot of layouts and projects done.

Let me share some tips on the method of my madness.

  • I don't put a lot of focus on the actual content and/or pictures I will be scrapbooking when I am "power scrapping" with a collection pack. A collection like this was perfect for some zoo pictures and some misc pictures I had on hand. Of course, if the collection pack was truly themed (holiday, birthday, etc), I would pick pictures accordingly.
  • I lay out a patterned paper that has all (or most) of the colors represented in the collection.  Some collections you may pull colors from 2-3 sheets; a mini collection is limited on papers so 1 generally does the job.  From my stash, I pull about 5-7 pieces of cardstock (more if you have a larger collection kit) that coordinate with the colors in the collection. These will generally be my base pages/photo mats. If you want to "power scrap" try not to use a full 12x12 patterned paper as a base page….especially in a mini collection. It's a little easier to do in a fuller collection.

  • Collection packs generally come with a sticker sheet and/or other coordinating embellishments. To make the collection go further, I raid my stash and pull some other pieces that will build on to the collection.  Some great ideas include wood veneers, label stickers for journaling, letter stickers, enamel dots, and basic ephemera.

Now let's get started on how this layout came together.

I started by cutting a 10 1/2" square away from the center of the orange cardstock.  Why did I do that? It's a great way to preserve paper that you won't even see in the finished layout and use it as photo mats.  You can go through all of the math and get everything centered and draw a square and trim it out. OR you can do like I did and cut everything using your Silhouette or comparable die cut machine. I'm lazy.
it's like magic. smart magic.

After I cut the square out of the orange, I layered a 11 3/4" square piece of brown cardstock on top. I cut some photo mats and cropped my pictures accordingly.
you would have never known there was a huge cut out behind that brown cardstock.

I cut some strips of patterned paper and placed on the base page. Don't stress. Just cut and glue scrappers. Cut.and.Glue.

I started building the page using a cut out journal "pocket card", some golden punched circles, a paper clip with some twine tied in a bow, some golden enamel dots and a kraft journal strip.

I wanted a little more texture on my page, so I used to Scor Tape to adhere some orange rick rak.
From the collection, I pop dotted 2 of the palm tree stickers

I finished my layout with a title using some letter stickers from my stash. For a little dimension I put glossy accents on my title.

This layout came together so quick and easy.  That's my kind of layout when I am power scrapping.

Before I let you go, I wanted to share some other layouts I made using the same collection.  I was able to get 5 layouts out of this mini collection kit. With my leftovers, I embellished a pillow box (to be shared on the blog later this week).  I have a few scraps leftover that will work great for a gift card holder (my favorite things to make next to layouts), a gift tag or card. I may even be able to stretch it and get another layout done.

who said a dinosaur collection had to be ALL "rough and tumble"?!?!
my small stash of scraps leftover!

So, do you love "power scrapping" with one collection pack? I'd love to hear how you "power scrap".

If you are local, The Little Blue House has a great Scraptivity workshop that is catered to this style of scrapbooking: "Scrap a Pack Workshop". If you stress about the creative process but want to get a lot of pages done using one collection pack, this is the class for you.

Have a great week!!!

Bo Bunny "Sweet Life" layout tutorial and card to share

Hi LBH friends!
Vicki Chrisman here to share a couple projects with you today.
First of all, I like to share a layout I created using the Bo Bunny "Sweet Life" Collection
and a few other goodies you can find in the LBH online store.  I'll share with you some tips for putting this layout together.

I loved the circle design on this Bo Bunny paper, so I decided I would cut one of the larger ones out and use it as an accent piece on my layout.

I am a huge fan of machine stitching on paper and using gold thread is one of my favorite things these days.  I used gold thread to stitch around the circle before adding my photo.

This layout has lots of layering.  Here I used some of the Bella Blvd Clear Cuts (Blueberry) under my photo.  It really showed up on top of the book print paper.

I used my Quick Quotes "Powder Puffs" to ink up and color my initials for my title.

I tend to type up journaling strips for my layouts quite often, and find that machine stitching them on works great!

Time to add the embellishments.  This is always my favorite part :)

I fell in love with these little Maya Road Mini Say Cheese Chipboard.  Here is what I did with mine.    First I used my ink to make it a dark blue to match my layout.  Then I printed off a tiny photo and trimmed it like a  Polaroid, with a little more white boarder at the bottom of the photo.
I used a foam square to add it to my layout, making it look like it was coming out of the camera.
Then I added Glossy Accents to the openings on the camera the would be the lens.
Oh geeezzzz... I love this little camera!!! lol

One more project to share. These beautiful bright happy colors are just so pretty aren't they Gorgeous papers!  I embossed my stamp and the edges of my matted piece of paper with gold embossing powder for interest. ( and used my gold thread for stitching again).
I also added a little strip of the Clearly Bold "White Stripe" on the base of the card.
I really like the sightly different look and feel that adds to the projects. Very fun stuff!

Thank you so much for stopping by and letting me share with you.

“ECHO PARK- ANYTHING GOES” Layout Tutorial

Hello everyone, Nadine here today to share a step by step tutorial with you on how I made my layout using Echo Park Anything Goes Collection

I love the colors in this collection and all the cute coordinating stickers to go with it.

Supplies Needed:
6. Gesso
7. Water paints
8. Black paint
9. Black fine tip pen
10. Ruler
11. Paintbrush
12. Bubble wrap
13. White Cardstock
14. Standard Scrappy Supplies... adhesives, trimmers, scissors
________________________________________________________________________

1. Paint and flick some water colors onto a white piece of cardstock with a paintbrush.

2. Paint some Gesso onto a 12 x 12 piece of plastic. I used the packaging from a scrapbook kit. Press a sheet of bubble wrap into the Gesso and stamp it onto the cardstock paper over the water paints.

It will look something like this.

3. Paint the edge of a large bowl or anything round with a thin edge with black paint and stamp it onto the cardstock paper.

4. Layer your picture over some various pieces of patterned papers from the Echo Park Anything Goes collection, make sure they are cut bigger than your picture. Layer those over a Jillibean Kraft Polaroid strip. Doodle some lines around the outer edge of your page with a ruler and black marker.

5. Paint a thin layer of Gesso over the Maya Road Camera Chipboard.

6. Add some color with some water colors.

7. Apply a layer of Glossy Accents. It will look whitish in color at 1st but once dry it will be clear.

8. Add some doodles around the cloud stickers and pop dot them up. Tuck some flower stickers under and around your picture and paper layers and add a few fun sequins and you are done.

Thank you for looking and happy scrapping!

I am Layout using Simple Stories

Hello Everyone!
Vicki here to share a layout I created using the Simple Stories I am Collection.

My background pieces are from the I AM Collection Kit. I'll share with you in the steps below how I put my layout together. For me this is a pretty big achievement because doing layouts of myself has never been something I've been very comfortable with.  But I know it's important. I think as scrapbookers we often end up documenting life around us. The kids, events, ect... But "we" are a part of all that. Usually "behind" the camera. Which honestly is where I prefer to be lol I had to stop and think of it differently. How sad would I be if I looked thru photo albums and there were no photos of my grandma and great grandma. We are a very important part of it all ... so take time to document YOU.

I started by adding some sort of semi dry brush swipes of acrylic paint behind where I will place my papers and photo.

Then I added a little stamping. Just enough so it would show around the edge of the matted paper.

Adding the background paper and photo was easy, then I decided to use one of these American Crafts straws as kind of a topper or bar above my photo. I put ties at both ends, and at this end I cut out one of the feathers from one of the Elements Sheets in the Collection kit and attached it to the string. I added a foam square to the back to give it lift off the page.

This pocket with tags from the Interactive Elements was one of the pieces I had decided from the beginning, would be a focal point on my page. What a fun way to add some journaling. I used the Expression Stickers on some of the tags and hand wrote journaling on others, using both the fronts and backs of the tags. Just a few of mine were I AM.. Simply Me, Compassionate, Choosing Happiness, Believer in God, Right were I want to be, a creative spirit, a believer that music soothes the soul, committed to my family, Lover of Animals.

Then comes my favorite part. Going back and adding details. I used the Gold Photo Stickers a number of different places on my layout. LOVED them! And a long the side of my photo you can see I used one of the photo overlays. Instead of using it over my photo I just used the part I wanted along the side of the photo, since it would easily show up on the background paper.

I hope this encourages you to create a "I AM" layout of our own.
Thank you for stopping by. Have a GREAT day!
