Front Porch Fun Day with Valerie Bishop!

It's Front Porch Fun Day on the Blog today! 

Our Front Porch Kit Design Team Member, Valerie Bishop is here today sharing a super cute Fall Tag and Technique from our It's Fall Yall Front Porch Kit! 

Materials used from the
Front Porch Kit:

Cream cardstock

muslin

felt leaf

button

enamel dots

cream ribbon with brown stitch 

Elle's Studio wood veneer heart

Elle's Studio cut apart tag

various ink sprays from my stash 

Let's get started!
I first used the cream piece of cardstock and cut some manila tags using the Silhouette design "manila tags" design #23643 from the Silhouette store. I sized the tags 3" wide by 6" tall.

I then took my piece of muslin, scrunched it up and placed it in a glass jar. I wanted a shabby fall color to it, so I sprayed some orange and yellow spray mists on the muslin inside the jar and kind wadding it up as I went, making sure all the color stayed in the jar! I would suggest you use gloves unless you don't care if your hands get dyed! (I did not use gloves as I never think that far ahead!!)

After getting the color I wanted I pulled out the piece of muslin and let it dry. I waited about an hour and it was dry.

I then cut the muslin into strips about 3" wide to fit across the tag.

Then I layered the muslin across my tag and sewed across each one

I took the rest of the muslin and used it to make a flower. I simply used a large Cosmo Cricket Gluber and wound it around to form the outer petals of the flower

For the center of the flower I used the cream stitched ribbon. I cut the ribbon about 6" long and pulled both ends of the brown stitch to make the rest of the ribbon gather up. I then tied both ends together to form a circle which I attached to the center of my muslin flower.

I used a button for the center of the flower and stuck one of the larger enamel dots to the top of the button. I then attached the flower to a scrap piece of patterned paper and layered on my tag. I layered one of the felt leaves under my flower. I used another scrap of patterned paper under my cut apart tag title and attached it to my tag. I glued my wood veneer heart on and added a couple enamel dots to my title piece. I used the rest of the cream stitched ribbon for the ribbon topper of my tag.

Cardstock:

Cardstock A – Vanilla – 8 X 12, 4 X 7

Cardstock B – Goldenrod – Two 4 X 6, Two 2 ¾ x 3 ¾, 1 X ½ (flag), Four- 1” circles, and Two ¾ X 1” (flags)

Cardstock C – Brown – 5 X 7, Two 5/8” circles

Cardstock D – Green – Two 3 X 4, 4 X 6, Two 1 X 1 ½ (flags), Two ¾” circles

Cardstock E – White (used backs of printed cards) Two 1 ½” Ovals

Cardstock F – Orange – 6 ½” circle 

(leftover from Wreath on the Family is Everything Double Layout)

Patterned Paper:

Patterned Paper A –Plaid – 4 ½  X 12, 1 ¼ X 12,

5 ½ X 3 ½

Patterned Paper B – Dk. Brown Trees/Acorns – Two 2 X 12, 4 ½ X 12

Patterned Paper C – Orange Dot/Trellis – 8 X 12, Two 2” circles, 3 ½ X 5 ½

Patterned Paper D – Gold Check – 4 ½ X 6 ½, Four 1 ¼ X 2 (flags)

Patterned Paper E – Gold Stripe (taken from card) 2 X 4

Patterned Paper F – Football Print – 1 X 1 ½ -Stem, ½ X 5 ½

Patterned Paper G – Cork – 1 X 12

Additional Items From Kit

2 green enamel dots, wooden heart flag, 24” grey and white baker’s twine, “so fun” wooden tab, wine and rust felt leaves, October label, 24” jute, orange arrow paper clip

Time to Create! 

1.     Ink all edges with Quick Quotes Chalk Ink – Java

2.     Refer to photos to assemble the layout.

3.     Piece base pages together with ½” overlap to create the two 12 X 12 base pages.

4.     To make pumpkin – 6 ½” circle – orange. Punch random circles in area that will be seen. Back with goldenrod punched circles. Attach stem and wine and rust felt leaves. Add jute bow.

5.     Scarecrow – 4 X 7 vanilla cardstock, add gold stripe (2 X 4) to the top section to create hat, add jute to the back of the ½ X 6 football print, pop dot across. Fray jute. Cheeks – Adhere circles referring to photo and trim to fit. Eyes – 1 ½” ovals (white), ¾” green circles, and 5/8” brown circles. Cut triangle for nose from 1 X 1½ orange cardstock. Use black and white pens for details. Contour of mouth is a 3” circle. Attach flags at the bottom for Y’all. Add twine and bows.

6.     Pop Dot – Brim of hat (scarecrow), goldenrod/plaid photo mat, brown (2) flags.

7.     Glossy Accents – Fall (title), green (scarecrow eyes)

Front Porch Fun Day with Rhonda Merry

It's Front Porch Fun Day here on the LBH Blog! Today, one of our Front Porch Kit design team members, Rhonda Merry is sharing a super cute Thankful Book she created with our "It's Fall Y'all" Kit! 

Hello, Rhonda Merry here with some Front Porch Kit Fun. 

One of my favorite things to create are mini albums or tag books adorned with fun embellishments.  I admit I have a lot of great packaged items to break into but there is something extra special about making your own. For me it’s not only getting creative but using up the scraps from a project rather than throwing pieces away. Also, using the many stamps, dies and punches I have picked up over the years. 

This little book is titled “We Give Thanks”.  Each page has a little journal area where each of my family members will be able to write in what they are thankful for this year. All of the embellishing was made up from the various scraps and embellies that came inside the “It’s Fall Ya’ll” Front Porch Kit. 

Here’s a look at each page. 

The little pumpkin is made from punching out 3 ovals from the orange patterned paper.  I layered it onto a 1’ chipboard circle to easily adhere the parts.  Punched a little leaf sprig and free handed a cork stem. I inked the edges if each oval and the leave with coordinating inks.  Once all of the pieces in place to form your pumpkin and the glue is dried, adhere to your page, card or tag.

  

                I used various dies to cut fall images from the cork sheet included in the FPK. 

So if you would like to get embellishing, go through your stash, find those general shapes (circles squares, ovals, or labels) gather the stamps with foliage, Thanks Yous and journal lines plus some specialty shapes like stars, hearts, fall themed, etc. and start punching and stamping away with your Front Porch Kit.
