Jillibean Soup Mixed Media Layout with Nadine Carlier

Hello, Scrappy Friends! Nadine here today to show you a mixed media layout I created using Jillibean Soup Saffron Yellow Pepper Soup Collection and different mediums from Prima Marketing available in The Little Blue House Store.

Supplies needed:

Jillibean Soup Saffron Yellow Pepper Soup Collection
Prima Marketing Art Basics - Clear Gesso, Modeling Paste, and Heavy Gesso White
Various Spray Inks
Stencils
Chipboard Banner
Twine
Buttons
Distress Ink Black Soot
Flower Stamp
Black Marker
3D Foam Adhesives
Other Adhesives
Scissors, Paper Trimmer, Distress Tool, Spatula

1. On a piece of Bazzill Vanilla Cardstock, I spread some Clear Gesso randomly onto it and then dry. This creates a seal so when spraying ink sprays onto the cardstock, it doesn't just absorb into the paper and wick. I like to randomly spray the inks and then spray lightly with water so I can make the inks run down the paper over the gesso. This technique will only work if sealed with the Clear Gesso first.

Once the spray inks are dry, I then used some modeling paste with different stencils and then stamped with a flower stamp dipped in a spray ink that I let run down the page.

2. Distress and layered up papers from the Jillibean Soup Saffron Yellow Pepper Soup Collection. On some chipboard banner pieces, I painted some Heavy Gesso on them dried, and then sprayed with some spray inks. Inked up the edges with Distress Ink Black Soot and used some 3D foam adhesives on the banner and behind my pictures. Flicked some watered down Heavy Gesso and black ink onto the page and adhered some buttons. Outlined my pictures with a black marker and around some of the stenciled circles onto the background.

All done! I ended up with a fun mixed media layout with lots of texture.
Thank you for looking and happy crafting!

"One Awesome Boy" Layout Tutorial - Echo Park "Jack and Jill" Collection

"ONE AWESOME BOY" Layout

Susan Tidwell here to share another layout tutorial with you featuring Echo Park's "Jack" paper collection. This collection is so cute and is perfect for boy layouts and projects!  I love that it has two 12" x 12" sticker sheets and lots of other
embellishments that coordinate.

Let's get started!

SUPPLY LIST
(1) 12"x12" white card stock, plus a small scrap *
(2) 4"x 6" navy cardstock *
star stencils or dies in different sizes
Ranger Distress Paint - Ripe Persimmon *
18" narrow red and white stripe ribbon *
dimensional foam dots - thin and thick *
White Uniball Signo pen *
(*products available in store only)

INSTRUCTIONS

1.  Cut a strip of the Referee Invisible sheet measuring 3 inches from the center point of the decorative shape. (I used the stripes horizontally, but you could also cut another edge so the stripes run vertically.) Paint curved edges with Distress Paint (not shown) and let dry. From remaining Invisible sheet cut a  2 1/2" x 4" strip with stripes running vertically. Cut "v" shape from one end and set aside to add later.

2.  Remove black B-O-Y stickers from Alpha Sticker sheet and adhere to white card stock scraps. Trim to size. Ink edges with Distress Ink.

3.  Use star stencil to trace 3 different size stars on back of leather. (You could also die cut the leather.) I used my favorite white pen, the Uniball Signo, so the tracing would show up on the black side. Cut out.

4.  Cut "Be" from the Be Awesome sticker on the Alpha Sticker sheet. Add this sticker along with two star stickers and the small orange "O," "N," "E" alpha stickers to the Invisible shape. Glue on the smallest leather star and the BOY letters (see photo above).

5.  Cut car paper 3 1/2" x 10"(diamond side) and 3" x 10" (orange car side); airplane paper 2" x 12" and wood paper 2" x 9." Cut "v" shape in ends of airplane strip. Ink edges of all four paper strips with Distress Ink and adhere to white card stock as shown in photo. Glue down the small Invisible shape in lower right corner of layout before adhering the airplane strip.

6.  Center scalloped medium blue border sticker from the Element Sticker Sheet below airplane strip. Cut ribbon a little over 12" and tie knot in each end. Knot remaining piece of the ribbon around the first piece and glue on seam between airplane strip and scalloped border.

7.  Layer photos on photo mats and trim if necessary. Add to layout. Add flag stickers from Element Stickers sheet to right edge of larger photo. Add orange tab sticker to top of left photo. Place three "button" stickers in upper left corner. Add navy arrow sticker near bottom of wood paper strip. Add "Boys Rule" and boy definition stickers on thin dimensional dots at bottom of layout. Note: these stickers are all from Element Sticker Sheet.

8.  Paint chipboard camera with Distress Paint. When dry, cover with Glossy Accents.  When dry, add to layout.

9.  Mount two remaining leather stars on thick dimensional dots and place on layout. Add remaining three stickers on thick dimensional dots and add to layout.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and will check out the "Jack" collection, especially if you have boys! The "Jill" collection is the coordinating paper line for girls.

Happy Scrapping!

"Happy, Happy Day" Layout Tutorial with Susan Tidwell

"HAPPY, HAPPY DAY" LAYOUT
Crate Paper- Craft Market

Hi everyone, Susan T. here with a layout tutorial for you using the lovely "Craft Market" papers from Crate Paper.
I love the soft hues of this collection and it suited my photos of the day our newest grandson came home and his 2-year-old brother finally got to meet him.
I used an easy watercolor technique on the background using the new Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink. This new color is beautiful and matches this paper line so well.
Take a medium-size acrylic block and smoosh (technical term!)
the ink pad on it and then spritz it with water until it beads up.

"Stamp" with the inked block randomly over the "Craftsman" paper. Press down harder if you want more coverage; press lightly to get a droplet effect. Repeat this until you have the desired coverage. So much easier than painting with a brush!

Here you can see that I started where my photos would be to practice first. It gets "patchier" toward the outer edges.

I added a torn strip of Doodlebug Bubble Gum Sprinkles Vellum by machine-stitching it over a few paper elements. This eliminated the need for adhesive which will show through the vellum.
Here you can see the envelope piece cut from the "Project w/ Gold" paper and a strip of the "Thrifty" paper
(I think that paper is my favorite of all the collection!)

I continued to layer cut and torn pieces of several of the papers ("Studio," "Inspired w/ Gold", and "Thrifty") and added stickers from the Journaling and Title Accent Sticker Sheet.
After adding my photos I embellished with the Puffy Gold Stickers (stars, hearts and arrows).

In this photo you can see a portion of the Wood Veneer Hoop that I added over the larger photo to highlight my two cute little grandsons.  I loved that it looked like a real wooden hoop so I used it as is.  I also used one of the paper strips to fold over an American Craft Paper Straw to make a flag.  The polka dot strip came from Craft Market- Studio Paper at the very bottom of this photo is actually a barcode strip from one of the papers - I love that some manufacturers add these patterns and I use them frequently!

Here you can see one of the Wood Veneer Tags w/ Gold Glitter Accents. I added number stickers from the sticker sheet for the year, added a scrap of printed paper to cover the hole of the tag and embellished with another heart puffy sticker.  I used the Wood Veneer Circle w/ Gold Glitter Accents in the upper right corner of my layout, adding the date of the photos with a gold Uniball Signo pen.

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and love these papers and embellishments as much as I do. It's a versatile, pretty paper collection and it's available now at The Little Blue House or
online here!

"Pebbles" Party - Happy Day Tutorial

Hello, Nadine here with a layout tutorial using the super cute Pebbles Inc. Happy Day collection from the Little Blue House Store.

When creating my layouts I don't usually like to use large pieces of patterned papers.
In my tutorial, I will show you how I used lots of layers
without drawing the attention away from the picture.

Supplies Needed:

2 White Cardstock & 1 other color
3. Spray Inks
4. Grid Stamp or something similar
6. 2" Circle punch
7. Sewing machine with black thread or a black pen for faux stitching
8. Pop dots
9. Standard Scrappy Supplies.... adhesives, scissors, paper trimmer

_________________

1. On the white cardstock randomly stamp in a vertical pattern, I used a grid like stamp.

2. Flick a few different colors onto the white cardstock of spray inks.

3. Punch three 2" circles.

4. Fold the circles in half and then cut on the fold line.

5. Tear one of your patterned papers into a strip about 2" wide. Arrange your circle halves like I have in the picture below cut a thin strip of a color cardstock, glued it down and then stitch down the thin cardstock strip. If you don't have a way to sew you can always use a black pen and draw your stitches.

6. Arrange more layers of papers under your picture and the other papers layers. For the cute little word frames, I cut up one of the Happy Day Tag Frames. I pop dotted up some of the Happy Day Icons & Phrase Stickers. A small strip of the American Crafts Burlap with White Dots also added the perfect color contrast behind the picture.

Here are some close up pictures of the Pebbles Inc. Happy Day papers and embellishments so you can really take in all their cuteness. :)

Thank you for looking! Happy Scrapping!

Love Bug Feature: Layout "Creating Interest"

Hello everyone!
Vicki here today to share a new love themed layout with you that I created using the Pink Paislee Bella Rouge Collection  . I was excited to create a layout of our son and daughter in law using this beautiful line for my first LBH project.

  Supplies you will need:

12x12 cardstock: black and pink
Letter stamps and ink
Large scalloped scissors
Sewing machine
General scrapping supplies: scissors, trimmer, adhesive, pencil.

I'm a lover of details on a layout. Fun things to make your eye want to wonder around the page. So  today I'm sharing just a few ways I did that on this layout.    First of all I loved being able to highlight their hands with a photo inside this chipboard  photo holder from the sticker pack.

I can hardly stand not to machine stitch on my projects.  I think it's fun and adds so much texture and interest.  Cutting out these hearts to layer and stitch on for part of my background , I thought would be a great start for a "love" themed layout.

In the photo above you can see my adhesive laying out.  I am a big fan of using a temporary (non permanent) adhesive to set up my layouts before I put things down permanently.  I love having the option of being able to  adjust things to see how I like it before I totally commit. When layering a lot, using just a little bit of the temporary adhesive to hold things in place while you decide makes a huge different.  When I am stitching, I don't want to get my machines needle getting  all gummed up with adhesive, so I usually just put enough temporary adhesive in the center of the piece that I'm going to stitch around, just to hold it in place while I'm stitching.

Below you can see the hearts once they are stitched into place.  I derided to  add my journaling  to the top in strips, that I also stitched down.

I am also a huge fan of contrast. Adding something as simple as a scallop border of that beautiful bright, yellow/gold on top of that black  really makes it stand out.   Knowing the eye will be drawn over there, makes the perfect place to add a meaningful stamped word.

Before I'm ever finished with a layout I enjoy going back and seeing if there are other areas on the layout that a little accent might  just finish off.  In this case, it was the tiny hear added to the upper left had corner of the photo.   ahhhhh.... now it feels complete. :)

I love hearing little tips and tricks other crafters use as they create. I hope you enjoyed some of mine. All these beautiful papers and embellishments are available to purchase at the Little Blue House and in the online store at www.thelittlebluehouseonline.com.  Thanks so much for letting me share. Don't forget to leave a comment below! You might be the Lucky Winner for a Blue Bag of Goodies from The Little Blue House.

"Love Bug" Mixed Media Layout Tutorial

Happy Sunday!
Today is the 2nd day of our LOVE Bug Blog Feature.

Today, Nadine Carlier is sharing a Love-Inspired Layout featuring her unique, artsy style! Read on to see her full tutorial...
----------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone! Nadine here, sharing my 1st LBH project with you all. I was super excited to get to use the new Pink Paislee Bella Rouge Collection for my project this month. I hope you get as "love-inspired" as I did using this collection.

Mixed Media Layout Tutorial
Supply List:
1. Spatula or old credit card/gift card
2. Gesso
3. Perfect Pearls or Paint and spray inks
4. Spray Mister
5. Pink Paislee Bella Rouge paper collection or 4-5 patterned papers
6. Pink Paislee Bella Rouge embellishments or other embellishments
7. Wink of Stella Glitter Brush
8. Distress Ink and Blender
9. Standard scrappy supplies... adhesive, scissors, paper trimmer
______________________

1.  Apply some Gesso with a spatula or an old credit card or gift card onto your background paper. Try to make it as uneven as possible leaving some areas thicker than other areas. Don't worry about drying it yet.
Tip: I like to save the plastic from packages to pour my Gesso in and to mix paints in.

2. Add some Perfect Pearls (I used pink) or paint into the Gesso. I like the Perfect Pearls because I wanted the metallic look that it gives. Paint will work just as well, you just wont get the the metallic look to it. Apply the Gesso mixture randomly over your 1st Gesso layer with your spatula or plastic card.

3. Then randomly sprinkle some Perfect Pearls (I used gold) onto your background paper. Using a water mister, spray the Perfect Pearls that you just sprinkled until it is wet. It will look almost like its melting when it's wet enough. Don't worry if the water puddles up some onto the paper. The Gesso will cause it to do that. Placing something heavy on all 4 corners of your paper to hold it down from curling up you can either leave your page for a few hours to dry or you can use a heat gun to speed up the drying process. If you use a heat gun make sure to not hold it too close to the paper or in one spot for too long or the Gesso will start to bubble.

(Before Water)
(With Water)

4. Once the background paper is dry you can now add your paper layers and embellishments. I layered a picture of my daughter from last years daddy/daughter Valentines dance over one of the frames in the Bella Rouge Chipboard Sticker Pack and 2 papers from the collection. Cutting each of the papers slightly bigger then then your picture and angling them in different directions from one another. I cut the beautiful title from one of the Bella Rouge 4x4 Card Pack. I absolutely LOVE the Frayed Flowers & Charms.

5. For the finishing touches I created some flowers onto the background using a Wink of Stella Glitter Brush in Gold. To create the flowers, I pressed the side of the brush onto the paper to make a petal. Repeated it 5-6 times in a circle to create the flower. Depending on how much of the tip you press down on its side will determine how big your flower is. I suggest practicing a few times on a scrap piece of paper before trying it on your layout.

6. After creating the flowers on my layout I added a few white enamel dots and flicked some black spray ink onto the background. To flick the ink onto my page I unscrewed the top off the bottle and tapped the tube that was in the bottle over my page with something hard like a pencil or pen. Make sure to cover your picture on your layout with a scrap piece of paper before doing this. I have ruined a few pictures by not covering it. Around the outside edges of the background paper I applied some Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Black Soot with the Tim Holtz Blending Tool.

Here is my completed page with some close up pictures. Hope I inspired you to give it a try!

Thank you for looking and happy scrapping!
