Thank you for joining us for another fabulous Ornament Tutorial! Today Kristyn is here to share a fun ornament she made using clothespins!

 

-Christmas Cheer Clip Up Ornament-

These Clip Up Ornaments are such a fun and easy craft!
Great for any age!

 

Gather up your Supplies

-Clothespin
-a Bottle Cap and a Epoxy Dot
-Washi Tape
-Card or Tag to Clip Up
- Scissors, Fast Grab Liquid Glue, Scor-Tape
-Journaling Pen
-Stickers to Embellish with

 Let's Create!

Grab your Clothespin and Washi Tape. Apply a strip of Washi to your Clothespin. If your Washi Tape is wider than your clothespin simply cut the leftover tape off. Apply Washi Tape on both sides of the Clothespin. Super Easy!!

 

I used Washi Tape from Doodlebug Designs- Sugar Plums Stripe and Carta Bella- Poinsettia Decorative Tape
 

Set your clothespin aside and grab your bottle cap.
Decide on what you want to embellish with. I have 3 different options to share with you:

 

-1st option- Personalize your bottle cap with an Alpha Sticker.
I used  "M" for my niece Makynzie with the Skinny Limeade Alphas from Doodlebug Designs. Add an Bottle Cap Epoxy Dot on top to finish off your bottle cap.

 

-2nd option- use a Photo of  the special someone you see using this clip up ornament. I used a picture of my niece and nephew.
Add an Bottle Cap Epoxy Dot on top to finish off your bottle cap.

 

-3rd option- Embellish with a Christmas Sticker. I added some red glimmer cardstock as a base for a cute Christmas ornament sticker from Authentique Christmas Time Sticker Sheet. Add an Bottle Cap Epoxy Dot on top to finish off your bottle cap.

 

Now it's time to attach the bottle cap to your clothespin.
Use your Fast Grab Liquid Glue to do this step. G
Glue your bottle cap to the middle of your clothespin.

Tip: Make sure you glue your bottle cap the correct way keeping all your patterns and embellishments going correct direction.

 

Set your Clip Up Ornaments aside to dry.

 Grab your Tag or Card you want to use to Clip Up, It's Time to Embellish! Here are the different options I have:

 

-1st option- I used the Reverse Confetti Quick Card Panels from the "Tis the Season" Pack. These heavy weight cards are super cute and work perfectly as a Christmas Wish List!

I added stickers to embellish the card from Bella Blvd- Make it Merry Text & Treasure Sticker Sheet. I wrote with a Uniball Singo Pen

-2nd option- Clip up a Christmas Card or a Photo you want to display.  

 

-3rd option- I cut a 3x4 card from the Simple Stories- Claus & Co. collection. Added a border sticker from Bella Blvd- Make it Merry Text & Treasure Sticker Sheet. 

Now check to see if your clothespin is dry and attach your tag or card and clip it up on your Christmas Tree!

12 Days of Ornaments Day #4

 

Welcome back to our 12 Days of Ornaments Blog Series! Everyday till November 25th we will be sharing a Handmade Ornament Tutorial with You! This a great way to get ready for the Holiday Season! Today we are sharing a Rustic Snowflake Ornament by Susan Liles!

 

 

Gather up your Ornament Supplies:

Reverse Confetti Layered Snowflake Cut
(available at the LBH)
6x12" piece of burlap 2--3" sections of Christmas greenery

3 red beads & 10" Jute twine

White Cardstock

Kraft paper (thin like butcher paper)Thin chipboard

Adhesive flatback pearls or rhinestones

Button & 18" Thin twine

Brown inks (I used 2 shades of brown)Gold shimmer spray

Heat tool & Hot glue gun

3D glue dots & Liquid glue

 
How to Create this Rustic Snowflake Ornament:

 

1.  Wet and crumple kraft paper. Undo and flatten, leaving wrinkled effect.  Use heat tool to dry completely.  Scrape brown ink pads over wrinkled paper and spray with gold shimmer spray.  Use heat tool to dry.

2.  Cut approx. 2" square and adhere to piece of white cardstock of the same size with liquid glue.  Use smallest snowflake die and cut. 

 

3.  Cut medium size snowflake from plain white cardstock and adhere pearls or rhinestones to the snowflake "spokes".  Set snowflakes aside.

4.  Cut 5 approx. 3" circles from burlap.  Cut one approx. 2 1/2" circle from chipboard. 

5.  Fold over burlap circle like a taco, then fold again in half.  Use hot glue to secure this fold.  Then use hot glue to adhere to chipboard circle, laying the point in the center.  Repeat this with 3 remaining burlap circles until rosette is formed.  (Should look like a pie with 4 slices!)

 

6.  Fold jute twine in half to create loop and hot glue to back of chipboard.  Hot glue last burlap circle over jute and chipboard to finish off the back. 

 

7.  Stack 2 3D glue dots in center of burlap rosette and attach larger snowflake.  Layer smaller snowflake on top of that with another 3D glue dot.  Fold thin twine in half, thread through button and tie a bow.  Use hot glue to adhere this to center of small snowflake.  Trim twine ends if desired.

8.  Twist greenery pieces around jute at top of ornament as desired.  Trim ends if necessary. Add red berries (beads) to greenery with hot glue.

Too Cute to Spook Project Ideas

Today we are sharing some "too cute to spook" projects using the Doodlebug- October 31st collection plus a surprise bonus project at the end of the post!

 Halloween Cookie Treat Bag Project

First stuff a cookie into the treat bag - make sure its  a cookie with the good chocolate!

 

Fold down the top 1/3 of the polka dot treat bag. 

Cut and adhere a 4 in strip of the green patterned paper. Layer a 3 in strip of the grid patterned paper.

Wrap it all with the purple polka dot ribbon. 

Cut the spider web from the back skull patterned paper and attach to the front of the bag. 

Matte the Halloween die cut square with black cardstock.

Punch a hole and tie the green glitter ribbon into a bow. Adhere the two pumpkins to the front. 

Then decide who is worthy of your gooey chocolate chip cookie. Easy peasy. 

 

You've Been Boo'd Pillow Box Project
by Dee Dee Roe

Cut strips of patterned paper and layer them around the pill box. 

Cut the spider web and bats from the back skull patterned paper and attach to the front of the box. Add the die cut ghost and a strip of cardstock with a sweet title. Done and done! :)

I AM...Simply Me!

Well, it's me Susan here!  Today I AM sharing a fun little project I did with the new I AM line of papers and embellishments from Simple Stories.  This collection has ME (and YOU) written all over it and I fell in love with it when I spied it at CHA in January.

I love how I was able to create the cover of my book with the gold letters I cut out from one of the papers.  I then added the "simply me" little flag banner.  That phrase has always stuck with me.  I'm not a complicated person, nor a "deep thinker", so when I saw that little snippet in my collection, I knew I had to use it on the cover!  (Now, that's not to say I'm a ding dong either...but there are times!  LOL!)  There are several encouraging pieces you could use to describe yourself others within the collection, so that you can give a personalized touch to whatever project you are using it for (bible journaling, anyone?).

I used the little flaps to hand-write words that describe my roles on one and my traits and qualities on the other.  That was fun to come up with!

Here's a closer look at how I put my book together...Yes, I took it "old-school" and created a super fast lunchbag minibook.  Most of the ones I've made in the past were a lot more pages than this one, but I wanted to keep it sweet and simple as that IS the theme of my book!

I only used two lunchbags, facing opposite directions.  I folded them together in half and then stapled the ends three times.  Then I turned each book page open and made a fold on the inside to help flatten it out and to "train" the pages to open like a book.  Now it was ready to decorate--the fun part!

Paper bag books are so fun with the little hidden side pockets that you can put "pull-out" pages and tags in!

It's been forever since I made one and now I remember why I loved them so much...just me, keepin' it simple!

One of the things I love about this collection is the fact that it incorporates a lot of black as an accent color and that makes me happy as it just makes everything pop!

So when it came time to start my book's cover, I knew I wanted to bring out that theme.  Here's what I did to create the muslin heart on the front:

I chose a coordinating acrylic paint, diluted it with a little water on my brush and painted just the front of my heart.  I then let that dry and helped it along with a little shot from my heat tool. 

Then I grabbed my SO STRIPEY stamp set from Reverse Confetti and used the large single stripe stamp and some Tuxedo Black Memento Luxe Pigment Ink (dye based ink would not be permanent and may fade) to create the black stripes on the heart.  I then heat set it once more.

I set it aside until I was ready to adhere it.  (I also used this technique on the little aqua triangle pocket on one of the inside pages.)  Here's a closer look at the cover which I also added some clear stickers, a clear overlay and more papers from the I AM collection from Simple Stories.
