"Love Bug" Mixed Media Layout Tutorial

Happy Sunday!
Today is the 2nd day of our LOVE Bug Blog Feature.

Today, Nadine Carlier is sharing a Love-Inspired Layout featuring her unique, artsy style! Read on to see her full tutorial...
----------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone! Nadine here, sharing my 1st LBH project with you all. I was super excited to get to use the new Pink Paislee Bella Rouge Collection for my project this month. I hope you get as "love-inspired" as I did using this collection.

Mixed Media Layout Tutorial
Supply List:
1. Spatula or old credit card/gift card
2. Gesso
3. Perfect Pearls or Paint and spray inks
4. Spray Mister
5. Pink Paislee Bella Rouge paper collection or 4-5 patterned papers
6. Pink Paislee Bella Rouge embellishments or other embellishments
7. Wink of Stella Glitter Brush
8. Distress Ink and Blender
9. Standard scrappy supplies... adhesive, scissors, paper trimmer

1.  Apply some Gesso with a spatula or an old credit card or gift card onto your background paper. Try to make it as uneven as possible leaving some areas thicker than other areas. Don't worry about drying it yet.
Tip: I like to save the plastic from packages to pour my Gesso in and to mix paints in.

2. Add some Perfect Pearls (I used pink) or paint into the Gesso. I like the Perfect Pearls because I wanted the metallic look that it gives. Paint will work just as well, you just wont get the the metallic look to it. Apply the Gesso mixture randomly over your 1st Gesso layer with your spatula or plastic card.

3. Then randomly sprinkle some Perfect Pearls (I used gold) onto your background paper. Using a water mister, spray the Perfect Pearls that you just sprinkled until it is wet. It will look almost like its melting when it's wet enough. Don't worry if the water puddles up some onto the paper. The Gesso will cause it to do that. Placing something heavy on all 4 corners of your paper to hold it down from curling up you can either leave your page for a few hours to dry or you can use a heat gun to speed up the drying process. If you use a heat gun make sure to not hold it too close to the paper or in one spot for too long or the Gesso will start to bubble.

4. Once the background paper is dry you can now add your paper layers and embellishments. I layered a picture of my daughter from last years daddy/daughter Valentines dance over one of the frames in the Bella Rouge Chipboard Sticker Pack and 2 papers from the collection. Cutting each of the papers slightly bigger then then your picture and angling them in different directions from one another. I cut the beautiful title from one of the Bella Rouge 4x4 Card Pack. I absolutely LOVE the Frayed Flowers & Charms.

5. For the finishing touches I created some flowers onto the background using a Wink of Stella Glitter Brush in Gold. To create the flowers, I pressed the side of the brush onto the paper to make a petal. Repeated it 5-6 times in a circle to create the flower. Depending on how much of the tip you press down on its side will determine how big your flower is. I suggest practicing a few times on a scrap piece of paper before trying it on your layout.

6. After creating the flowers on my layout I added a few white enamel dots and flicked some black spray ink onto the background. To flick the ink onto my page I unscrewed the top off the bottle and tapped the tube that was in the bottle over my page with something hard like a pencil or pen. Make sure to cover your picture on your layout with a scrap piece of paper before doing this. I have ruined a few pictures by not covering it. Around the outside edges of the background paper I applied some Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Black Soot with the Tim Holtz Blending Tool.

Here is my completed page with some close up pictures. Hope I inspired you to give it a try!

Thank you for looking and happy scrapping!
