IT's the Little Things...

Good Morning,

Rhonda Merry here to
share a few of the little details
that I enjoyed about the
Nature's Charm Front Porch Kit.

In each kit there is always a little something that will
catch my eye. It's usually a paper with a beautiful print  but this
time it was the strip of muslin fabric the intrigued me.

I use the fabric in two ways,
first to make a flower for this mini canvas.
I did the same gather technique that Elaine did at Glitter Me Happy
with her fabric flower. Click HERE to see instructions.

Next, I used a small piece of fabric for the
sentiment banner on my own canvas.

For this banner I pulled out my stamps to find a saying that would
work with my canvas.  This was a perfect one for the picture featured.
I cut the banner with dove tailed ends and inked around the
edges with some Shabby Shutters Distress Inks.
Archival Ink was key to make sure that the ink
would not bleed into the fabric.
It's best to use an ink that is fast drying.

I was in such a stamping mood that I also added
some stamped fabric to my Family LO.
After stamping the fabric, I carefully trimmed around using
sharp fabric scissors so that I would not snag any thread
and still have a clear image.

On all of my trimmed items I ran a bead of Fray Stoppa around
the edges to keep the edges from fraying.

Then of course adding the little bit of Stickles Ice, Lemon Ice,
to the wing is just one of those "little things" that make
the finished project that much more special.

So tell us what have you done with your
Nature's Charm Front Porch Kit.
We would love to see your projects.

Have a crafty day!

Rhonda Merry

Front Porch Kit - Nature's Charm Canvas

Hi bloggers..Elaine here.  I hope you have all purchased your beautiful Nature's Charm Front Porch Kit.  As you can see from the gallery the projects we created were amazing.  Hope that doesn't sound to braggy but they really are all so pretty. The kit is jam packed full of great products.  For my post today I was trying to figure out what to talk about.  I am in the process of decluttering my scrap space and as I was trying to decide where to put my FPK remaining items it hit me...can I create one last project from my kit??  Yeppo and here it is..
I took an 11 x 14 canvas and painted it with an acrylic paint called linen.  Then I took some of my mists (Maya Mists Green and Blue Hydrangea) that were in the blue and green families and while the paint was a little wet spritzed it.  It was kind of cool how how the spray reacted with the paint.  I had strips of papers left so I cut the ends in dove tails and placed them on the canvas.  I inked the strips using Quick Quotes Green Tea Chalk Ink. I also had about 12 inches of the great big green rick rack that I added on.
The big giant flower was modeled after one that Miss Tracy taught on a project several years ago.

.For the center I had a piece of the green fabric that was about 4" x 6".  I cut it into four 1" x 4" pieces.  Pulled the threads on the side to fray.  I then ran a gathering stitch along the non-frayed side and pulled tight to form a circle.  A quick stitch to tie together and this is what it looks like.  (Yep those are my great craft pants underneath the flower center.  They are a work of art in and of themselves.)

I then took my button and added some twine to the center.  Then I wrapped my yarn remnants around the button and lace that in the center of the big flower

The buttons on this part of canvas were from my stash. They are vintage buttons my Grandma had.
The sentiment strip says,"Lucky You're in My Life" and so I added this picture of my bestest friends. I am so blessed to have them in my life.
Finally I inked around the edges of the canvas to finish it off.  This turned out to be a Win Win for me.  I now have a beautiful canvas with a picture of my friends and I don't have anything to put away.
YEA!!
If you want some more detail on the this canvas hop on over to my blog - Glittermehappy for some detailed instructions.  If you get the chance stop by the Little Blue House and see some of our gallery projects as well as our Spring and Easter class projects.
Have a wonderful time creating...
Elaine

Hello, this is Jing-Jing

I'm here to share my altered project for the month.  The Front Porch Kits' latest kit contained an 8x8 burlap canvas.  After thinking about it for quite a few days, I decided that I will try something different for me and make a wall hanging.  There was a journaling tag in kit and I thought that I could use it as the saying of some cute critter.  I went the simple route and came up with this lucky owl.
I put to use many of the elements included in the kit: handmade buttons, yarn to thread through the button holes, silk leaves, two different ribbons and this extremely stiff wired stem I used here as a border.  I think I've mentioned how jam packed this kit is with so many fun elements!
Here's one more look at the journaling tag that I trimmed to use on the canvas and the cute owl I cut with Cricut Lite Hoot N Holler.
Thank you for visiting! Until next time, keep on creating!

Introducing the NEW Front Porch Design Team!

It's my great pleasure and honor to introduce to you our NEW Front Porch Design Team for 2012!

I received so many submissions from so many talented artists...trust me, the decision was quite difficult to make...but it had to be made and here are the results of my search!
I'll kick things off with a little intro about me...

My name is Tracy Pounds...but "Miss Tracy" is what most people call me! I am married to Scott and have 5 fabulous kiddos and 1 adorable GrandBoy! I have the great privilege of being the Owner and Creative Director of the Little Blue House in Keller, TX which is the proud home of Front Porch Kits! I personally hand-pick each item that goes into these kits and you'll find that I L-O-V-E texture! So you will see lots of it in the FP Kits. You see, I'm a crafter at heart and love scrapbooking too, so it was important to me to have the FP Kits appeal to both the Scrapper and the Crafter! I also L-O-V-E surprises...so will you when you see some of the unepected goodies in your kits. I'm super excited to be apart of these great designers and want to welcome them to our Front Porch family! Check out my blog at www.luv2cre8joy.blogspot.com

Hi, I'm Roxanne and I'm married, work full time as a graphic designer, and have 2 young boys who are my inspiration for creating and preserving our memories! I also provide photography for couples and families as a side business. And I love to make cards, mini albums (my favorite!), and altered items. I'm addicted to paper and stamps of course! Check out my blog at www.projectorganizedchaos.blogspot.com

My name is Valerie Bishop and I've been married to my high school sweetheart for almost 29 years! We have 3 kids, one off and married, one off at college, and the youngest is still in high school. I live in Central Arkansas, but I'm originally from the gulf coast of Mississippi - I'll always be coastal girl!! I've been scrapbooking since 2006, when I helped out at my youngest daughter's girl scout crop night. I've been hooked ever since! I love to cut up patterned paper and then layer on the goodies!! I'm just so honored to be chosen to be a part of the Front Porch Design team!! Check out my blog at www.myhere-rightnow.blogspot.com

Hello, Elaine here... I love designing with the Front Porch Kit. It always contains so many beautiful papers, embellishments and especially those surprise items. I have been in love with crafty things for as long as I can remember. My addiction to card making and scrapbooking began about ten years ago. My motto, "Everything looks better with glitter" and my confession is "I have a glitter abuse problem.  Here’sa little about me...I am married to Dan, my college sweetheart, the mother of Jonathan and Kristen...and two furry kitties.  I design and teach for The Little Blue House in Keller , Texas. I am so blessed to be a part of this design team. Check out my blog at www.glittermehappy.blogspot.com

My name is Danielle Wycough, and I am very excited to be a part of the Design Team. I live in Texas with my sweet husband and our 5 littles. Their ages are 15, 12, 10, 8, and 7. I am beyond blessed! I started into the world of paper crafting five years ago with a scrapbook for a Christmas gift. I loved how I could capture the simple everyday moments of our lives in a book, and personalize it however I saw fit. That was all it took. Just some pretty paper and a little glue. Since then, I discovered card making and it quickly became an obsession. My favorite part of creating a card is that moment when the recipient opens it. The smiles, tears, laughs, and hugs I have received are priceless! I have been honored to be on a variety of Design Teams, and I have had many of my cards published. I look forward to working with the Front Porch Kits, and I hope that I can inspire and motivate you as well. Check out my blog at www.lifeonelayoutatatime.blogspot.com

Hello...Lynette here. On my blog there is a quote: Life is all about using the whole box of crayons. I really try to do just that. I have tried many venues in the craft industry, spending twenty years in the quilt industry. My greatest accomplishment thus far is being married 42 years ( and counting ) and having 3 ( now grown ) children. Next, co-authoring a book ,  for Better Homes and Gardens,  titled 501 Quilt Blocks. About 12 years ago, I began scrapbooking and other related mixed media. As a new member of The Front Porch Kit design team, I am stretching and leaning as I create and design using the products provided in the FPK. Greetings! I am Jing Jing Nickel. Pronounce it like there are nickels in your pocket making that jingling noise! :) I have been scrapbooking since 1999. Back then it was the most perfect extension of my love for traveling and travel photography. Then with the birth of my first child, a new dimension of scrapbooking as well as a new realm of creative possibilities was born with her. Today and every day, I scrap my family, my trips, and my family on trips. No matter what my subjects are, I always stylize them with some humor :) While I am not scrapbooking, I also work full time as an I.T. engineer. Check out my blog at www.thislittleartofmine.blogspot.com

Hi!  My name is Jaclyn Hatcher, and I'm a minister's wife and mom to 3 boys.  We live in a wonderful little town called Sugar Hill, just north of Atlanta, Georgia.  I love all things paper and interior decorating, and am happiest when I get to combine the two. :) Before we moved here I had the privilege of working alongside Tracy for several years....it was so much fun!  Thrilled to be a part of the design team for Front Porch Kits, and thankful for how it keeps me connected to the Little Blue House girls. Check out my blog at www.3heartdesigns.blogspot.com

I am a mixed-media artist who has dabbled in artistic and creative pursuits my entire life. I love sharing art through teaching and watching students' creativity blossom. My passion is exploring new techniques and altering the ordinary into something new and extraordinary. I am currently a designer and instructor at The Little Blue House and am thrilled to continue as a feature designer for Front Porch Kits! Join me on this artful journey...Check out my blog at

My name is Robyn Schaub, I live in Dallas, Texas, with two sweet and clever little girls, a very patient husband and two rescued dogs that are now quite spoiled. I've been scrapbooking for over eight years and my work has been published in several magazines, including Creating Keepsakes, Scrapbooks Etc. and Scrapbook Trends. I don't consider myself an artist – more of a visual reporter who always has a camera in-hand and a stash of pretty paper waiting back home. My philosophy is to "keep it real and keep it fun" because my pages reflect who I am. Check out my blog at www.dreaminginscraps.blogspot.com

I guess you could say I have been paper crafting since Kindergarten and have never stopped. Living in the beautiful Rocky Mountains with my family provides a lot of inspiration and keeps me busy. Not to mention my "real job" as an educator in our local school district. However, scrapbooking is definitely my favorite way to channel creative energy and to share ideas with others. Check out my blog at www.lizqualman.blogspot.com

Hi, there.  My name is Kristy Fey and my very first scrapbook was a tribute to The New Kids On The Block way back in 1990!  These days I scrap to leave a legacy for my sweet little family!  We have recently relocated to New Braunfels, Texas where I spend most of my days playing with my kids and making stuff!  Nothing gets me going like pretty paper, ribbon scraps, and some paint, which makes me thrilled to be a part of the Fort Porch Kit team!! Check out my blog at

Hello...I'm Erica. When I moved to TX 12 years ago, a friend introduced me to scrapbooking and I have been hooked ever since. A few years ago, I started making cards, home decor, and altered projects. I've found this is where my true passion lies. I am always creating something and love using vintage items in my projects - photos, buttons, ephemera - you name it. My favorite supply is old sheet music. And of course, glitter. I live in North Richland Hills with my husband David and our three cats. We love to travel and spend time with our nieces and nephew.  They have quickly become the only subjects of my scrapbooking! Check out my blog at www.zunkychic.com

My name is Jennifer Yates and I am a current member of the FP Team! I'm thrilled to be designing for Front Porch Kits and love the unique items that Miss Tracy gives us to create with!
