Love Bug Feature: Valentine's Vintage Packaging

Well, it's me Susan here, and today I'm sharing my "Bitten by the LoVe Bug" feature.  I thought I'd go back in time a little bit and share not only something I made while designing with the latest Front Porch Kit--The Greatest of These is Love from The Little Blue House, but also something a little "vintage-y" (yes it's a word in Lilesland).

In case y'all didn't get the memo, our Love Bug feature will run through Valentine's Day and features some awesome "love-inspired" projects from the LBH Media Team.

As with many of y'all, I was inspired by Pinterest with this project.  Back around the holidays, I had seen some packages simply wrapped in brown paper, and the recipient denoted by only a black and white photo.  I remembered seeing it, and I thought, 'why not make a Valentine gift bag'?  Since my Front Porch Kit contained a fun chevron embossed kraft bag, I thought it would be perfect as a starting point for my inspired project.

However, rather than something so simple like I was inspired by, I took it a little further and I used several of the trinkets and embellishments included to "cluster" down around the bottom of my picture (layered with a chipboard polaroid frame).

The trim across the top really adds to the vintage feel along with the rosette heart.  I couldn't just stop there, I was in a "more is more" mood, so layering the sparkly sequin  heart and charm finished it off great!

Because the top of the bag is folded over and secured with non-removable tape, I took a black fine tip pen and drew dashed lines, a "cut here" indication, and a little pair of scissors across the bottom, where someone could open the gift neatly and still keep the packaging for framing, hanging on the wall or backing with cardboard to set on an easel (which is what I'll probably do with it).  It's packaging that can be repurposed!  I told y'all I wanted to get into more of that this year!

Ok, I hope you'll stick around and join us for more amazing "love bug" projects!  I can't wait to see what's up everyone's sleeves!

Be sure and stop back by tomorrow for another great LOVE BUG project and tutorial and leave a comment here today and you will be entered into a drawing for a LOVE BUG Prize Bag filled with lovely goodies!
Thanks for reading! XOXO

  4. Susan, another cute and clever project from you! This gives me so much more inspiration on things not to throw away.(My husband will hate this because he says I can't even get rid of a scrap of paper!) The embellishments and the "cut line" on the bottom are just added cuteness! The pictures are adorable, too!
