"Get it Together" Organizing with Style: Week 8

I want to thank all of you for participating in our "Get it Together" Organizational Mission for 2011!  I hope that our posts have inspired you and that your scrap spaces and supplies have transformed over the last 8 weeks!

For our last post, I thought it would be good to share a few ideas that will aid you in keeping up with what you have (reference swatches)!

Here are few that have been helpful for me:

When organizing your Cuttlebug or Sizzix embossing folders consider making yourself a Reference Tag swatch book. It is a great way to see all the fabulous folders you own at a glance!…especially helpful when you’re working on a creative project and don’t want to take the time to go through every folder that you own. Simply flip through your tags … it will save you so much time! Also, you can see the positive and negative image of each folder by looking at the reverse side of the tag.

Here’s another great tip…take your Swatch Book with you on your next shopping trip to help you remember which embossing folders you already have in your collection!

Follow these simple steps to create your own Cuttlebug Swatch Book:
1. Die cut a tag shape out of scraps of cardstock.
2. Emboss each individual tag with the embossing folders that you own.
3. Place all of your embossed tags on a binder ring.
4. Tie a few colorful ribbons on the ring just for fun!

Here is another great idea...Consider making yourself a Reference Swatch Book
 for your Distress Ink Pads.
DistressInk_TagSwatchBook_2

This is a great way to see the true colors and you can label them on the back with the name of the ink pad. These are really easy to create:

1. Grab some shipping tags (local office supply store or we carry them at the LBH)
2. Crumple the tag up in your hand and then lightly smooth out again
3. Rub your Distress Ink Pad over the wrinkles and crinkles all over the tag
4. Label the back with name of that specific color
5. Place on a binder ring for easy access

You can also do a reference swatch for your other goodies...consider doing some for your
Stickles , Chalk Inks, Mists, etc.

Post a comment today on one of your favorite organizational ideas that we've shared over the last 8 weeks! I will choose one final lucky commenter next Monday for a
VERY SPECIAL GRAND PRIZE!
You will want to be sure your name is in this drawing!!!!!  So Keep your comments Coming!

  6. I am sad that organization is coming to an end, but I still have work to do in my little room. I think my favorite organizaitonal week was the paper. It is my favorite product, but also my biggest nightmare trying to keep it organized. Thanks again for all the hard work and time that you LBH gals put into all the posting. It was very helpful. Love Yall!!!!

  7. I have really enjoyed the Organizational Tips - all of them! I think this week's (wk 8) has been the coolest for me. I saw the Distress Ink tags at LBH a few months back and thought - WOW! I can totally do that! So I made a modified version for myself using tags and a folder to make a book so I can keep the sponges with the color it goes with as well!

  15. I loved the tool tip....and rather than use an over the door shoe hanger, I dug my Vera Bradley travel toiletry bag out from under my sink (because how often do I really travel)? and put some of my accessories in that instead! and it's portable and hanging on a hook in my spare rooms' closet. I love organization tips!

  17. I love this week's tips. We get to play with our products!!! I have my Stickles all listed on my cell phone but I will make tags of all my destressed inks, mists, etc.

My favorite organizational challenge was my ribbon. Now it is all organized and I no longer have to spend 30 minutes trying to find the color I need. In a glance I can tell what I have (or need to buy:-). My stamp setsbwere a mess and I love having them sorted into categories. The anxiety I felt when I started dumping and sorting has been replaced with calmness and a smile when I try to find that perfect flower...which I knew I had but couldn't find it. Instead of using the acrylic picture frames I used 11x 17 metal cookie sheets.

While I am sad that this is over, I want to thank everyone at LBH. You all ROCK!

  18. What great tips today. I will do the distress ink cards for sure. Of all your tips so far, I have to say the ribbons in the box has been the most useful for me.

  21. I never thought about doing this with my folders. I do something similar with my stamp sentiments, stamp them and put them on a ring by occasion.
Thanks for all the great ideas over the last several weeks. Although I do need to get caught up a bit. I love the idea for all the embellishments

  26. I am so thrilled to be on my way to being an Organized Scrapper. But the best thing about this whole organizational thing for me was that I decided to bite the bullet and make a crafting room. The Container Store was oh so happy to help with that and even sent someone over during the snowy vacation to make it happen. I will send photos soon (when I get it looking all tidy). Thank you Girls for all of the tips. I needed that!!

  27. I particulatly liked the last tip. I am going to make two sets of swatch cards for my folders, distress inks and Stickles, one for my craft room and one for the car. I never know when I am going to be shopping for things I need and don't need but buy anyway. I also liked the Stickles storage ideas.

  28. Yeah - I actually did this a couple of years ago! But I do need to update it w/all the new folders I've bought since then.

and Congrats to Amy for winning!

  30. Thanks to all of the LBH gals for the amazing organiztional tips y'all presented!! They've all been FABULOUS and I will really miss the weekly articles!!
The one tip that I think was the most ingenious was Tracy's ribbon tip about putting your ribbons and fibers on cards!! I've seen more people doing this @ crops instead of cropping!!
Also, congrats to Amy for winning last week's prize!!
