By: Miss Tracy :) Hello everyone! Miss Tracy here today and I wanted to share a beautiful embossed metal ornament with you during our wonderful 12 Days of Ornaments Extravaganza! Here's a closer look...
These are simple paper mache ornaments that you can find at the Little Blue House or your local craft store. I have covered them with pieces of embossed art metal (Ten Seconds Studio).
Here is a look at what you will need to re-create these fabulous embossed metal ornaments...
First, you will need to make a template of the area that you are wanting to cover on your ornament. Use thin paper such as, copy paper or notebook paper and simply press around the area with your finger to give you a cut line. Then, trace that piece onto a sturdier background such as chipboard or a heavy weight cardstock.
Now, trace the templates onto the back side (silver side) of the art metal and cut them out...
Grab your favorite Cuttlebug or Sizzix Embossing Folders and run the metal pieces through your Cuttlebug or Big Shot... After your pieces are embossed, you can begin sanding. Use a lightweight sander over the embossed designs to expose the silver core of the metal...so easy and so beautiful! You are now ready to tape your metal pieces. I prefer to use tape sheets for this step but if you do not have access to those, you can use your tacky tape roll. Just be sure to get the adhesive as close to the edges as possible to ensure that you don't get flippy corners.
Carefully, remove the backing from your tape and put into place on your ornament. Be sure to burnish down all the sidess so you don't have any sharp edges. When you have completely covered your ornament, consider adding some ribbon or decorative brads or jewels to further embellish them!
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial! Don't forget to post a comment...remember, one lucky commenter will recieve the ornament shown today! How about sharing your favorite Christmas song with me...I'm a big fan of Christmas music...just puts me in such a merry mood!

ReplyDeleteAwesome!! Great instructions - I can't wait to try the red star!
ReplyDeleteThank for sharing the idea for this pretty ornament! Unfortunately, this one is going to take a great deal of improvising, as I have no LSS for supplies, nor an embossing machine. Gotta put on my thinking cap! Meanwhile, I'll pop in my compilation Christmas CD and enjoy Go Tell it on the Mountain, with Vanessa Williams, and many more favorites!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tracy. I have done this in paper, but love the metal. I have two of the ornaments done from yesterday, so I guess I need to get busy on this one.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have this ornament! I having gotten into the metal embossing. Yet. Just give me time! LOL

ReplyDeleteTracy, Thanks for sharing a beautiful and elegant ornament and the how-to! SO glad to see this celebration :)! I love Christmas music of all sorts but I'll say, Silent Night, because I used to be able to sing it as a lullaby for my son. I guess it calmed us both. TFS! Paula
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazingly beautiful ornament!!! Thank you for the wonderful tutorial. What's not to love about all Christmas music (except maybe that Grandma got ran over by a reindeer song) Never was bothered by that one too much in the past, but since I'm going to be a grandma come January!!!! I think my all time fave, though, is Carol of the Bells.
ReplyDeleteThe metal makes such a beautiful ornament. I saw these hanging in the shop Saturday and they are even more beautiful in person...can't wait to try them out. Suggestion: Offer the template for each ornament when you purchase them from your shop...that would be awsome!!!!
ReplyDeleteI will be happy to offer the templates and we can kit these ornaments for you if you would like to purchase them at the LBH. HoHoHo!
ReplyDeleteMiss Tracy :)
I love these ornaments. They look so pretty and can be so elegant with some embellishments. I will be making these for sure. My favorite song is The Christmas song. Chestnuts roasting on an open fire just makes you feel so warm and puts you in the holiday spirit.
ReplyDeleteTracy, I love these too - I bought some at the Open House. I was going to do them in all glitter but now I think I'll try an alternating pattern - 1 section glitter, 1 section embossed metal! I'll bring them in to show you how they turn out. My favorite Christmas song is The Holly & the IVy.
ReplyDeleteI remember when Leslie and Cinnamon got to make these at Hot Metal Mamas and I didn't make it that month. Thanks for letting me know how to make it.
ReplyDeleteI love all Christmas music.
Yeah, time to do Christmas Ornaments again. Metal is great to work with and it amazes me how many different uses it has. I could listen to Christmas music all year...Mary Did You Know by Kenny Rogers comes to mind as one of my fav's.
ReplyDeleteThese are just gorgeous!!
ReplyDelete<3Love...<3Love...<3Love those ornaments!! Every year I buy 3 similar ornaments to add to my Christmas tree. I see this year I'll just have to come to the LBH and make my own. Always wanted to delve into the world of Hot Metal Mama's...watch out, here I come :O)
ReplyDeleteTracy, this ornament is gorgeous! My favorite Christmas song is the 12 Days of Christmas sung by The Muppets and John Denver. I've loved it since I was little and I'll love it when I'm old :)
ReplyDeleteLove this! I need to stock up on supplies. My favorite Christmas song is any of the ones my daughter sang when she was in high school. It wasn't his child pops into my head.
